Freediving is about inward power, discipline and control. If you’ve always wanted to enter the underwater world quietly, on your own terms, staying as long as your breath allows, then freediving is for you.
 
Taking the PADI Freediver course is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the waves.

Course Goals​

  • Learn breath hold techniques

  • Learn correct buddy procedures

  • Conduct confined water static apnea for 90 seconds

  • Conduct confined water dynamic apnea for 25 metres

  • Conduct Open Water constant weight freedive to 10 metres

Course Prerequisites

  • No previous experience of snorkelling, skin diving or freediving required.

  • Minimum age of 12 years

  • You must be comfortable in water and possess a basic level of swimming ability. During the program you will need to complete a 200 Metre continuous unaided swim or a 300 Metre swim with mask, fins & snorkel 

  • Good physical health. You must complete the PADI Freediver Medical Statement prior to the program start date. Any pre-existing medical conditions highlighted on this form will require medical clearance before any in-water training can take place.

Knowledge Development

Knowledge development is based on independent study, using the innovative PADI Freediver Touch interactive learning materials. Once downloaded to your smart phone of tablet, you can access the course material anywhere, at anytime, without the need for an internet connection. Independent study is backed up by your PADI Freediving Instructor, answering any questions you may have.

The comprehensive PADI Freediver Touch may be used for the PADI Basic Freediver, PADI Freediver, PADI Advanced Freediver & PADI Master Freediver programs and covers the following topics:

  • Freediving skills

  • Freediving safety

  • Freediving techniques

  • Equalisation for freediving

  • Breathing for freediving

  • Preparation and recovery for freediving

  • Gear and equipment for freediving

  • Environmental factors and wildlife awareness

Course Duration

  • 1-3 Days

The duration of the program ranges between 1 & 3 days, depending on previous certification and experience & is split between confined water training, theory and open water training.

Upgrade From PADI Basic Freediver - £145

If you have completed the PADI Basic Freediver program then you will already possess the required PADI Freediver Touch course materials. You will also have covered & met the confined water requirements for this program, so you will only be required to complete the open water section to upgrade to the PADI Freediver level.

Full PADI Freediver - £290

If you have no previous training or certification in freediving then you would complete all sections of the PADI Freediver program, including, theory, confined water and open water training.

  • How Deep Can I Go?
    That depends on your certification level, age and experience. As a certified PADI Open Water diver you will be qualified to dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres, in conditions similar to, or better than those you are trained/experienced in. As a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver you will be qualified to dive to a maximum depth of 30 metres, in conditions similar to, or better than those you are trained/experienced in. As a PADI Deep Diver you will be qualified to dive to a maximum depth of 40 metres, in conditions similar to, or better than those you are trained/experienced in. Depths deeper than 40 metres are considered as Technical Diving and require additional Technical Divier training and equipment. PADI offer a wide range of Technical Training programs, including the use of mixed gases and rebreathers.
  • What Are The Age Restrictions For Scuba Diving?
    The minimum age to become certified as a PADI diver is 10. The PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification is available for those aged between the ages of 10 & 14. Ten & eleven year olds must dive with a certified parent/guardian or PADI Professional to a maximum depth of 12 metres. Those aged between 12 and 14 must dive with a certified adult to a maximum depth of 18 metres. Those aged 15 and over are classed as adults, with no upper age limit. The PADI Bubblemaker & PADI Seal Team programs allow children from the age of 8 to experience Scuba Diving in the safe confines of a swimming pool.
  • Do I Have To Be A Good Swimmer?
    No, you don't have to be a strong swimmer. There is however a requirement that you are able to swim a distance of 200 metres (non-stop) and complete a 10 minute tread water/float. There is no time limit on the 200 metre swim and no particular stroke required.
  • How Long Does A Scuba Dive Last?
    The duration of a Scuba Dive can vary, depending on the environment, conditions and depth.
